Tropical and Garden Plants, and Tiny Birds

Our greenhouse doubles as a quail cottage: coturnix quail live beneath the benches, fertilizing the beds while tropical plants, herbs, and seedlings grow above them.

This shared space reflects the intentional, symbiotic approach behind The 4 Acre Farm. Plants and animals each contribute to a practical farm system rooted in care for the land.

The Quail Greenhouse is part of our future educational experience plan for visitors to Thamesville and Chatham-Kent.

Quail are a big part of our homestead and sustainability goals. They fit naturally into our growing habits by sharing space with the greenhouse while providing plenty of nutritious eggs and a practical meat source for a small homestead. They are fun to watch, relatively easy to care for and make productive use of a compact space. This relationship between birds and plants reflects how we try to farm across the property: thoughtfully, efficiently and with each part contributing to the whole. Quail eggs may be available through our Produce Stand as supply allows.
